Joy and kindness in diptych: Art workshop with Ubley Primary
I recently had the pleasure of leading a diptych painting workshop with children from Ubley Primary School, as part of a special visit to an exhibition at Bath Abbey. Surrounded by powerful works of art in the stunning space, we explored how artists use colour, shape, and story to express big ideas — especially joy and kindness.
Back in their own classroom, the children created their own diptychs: two-panel paintings that captured what joy and kindness look and feel like to them. From rainbows and helping hands to shared adventures and quiet moments, each piece was a window into their world.
It was inspiring to see how thoughtfully the children responded to the themes, and how confidently they used art to express their ideas. A beautiful reminder that creativity and compassion go hand in hand — and that even simple acts of kindness can spark something truly joyful.
